The Test of True Love

1 John 3:23–24

And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

The core of the Christian life is distilled down to two non-negotiable realities: Believe in Jesus, and love one another. Not believe and perform, impress, achieve, or pretend.

Belief and love are inseparable. Authentic faith inevitably produces visible, costly, practical love. It is love that interrupts your comfort, blesses your enemy, forgives the repeat offender, stays gentle when provoked, and chooses mercy over pride.

The primary test of mature faith is neither theological knowledge nor spiritual activity, but relational love. It is dangerously easy to believe deeply while loving selectively.

Close the gap between what you profess and how you treat people. The world will not recognize Christ through your arguments, but through your love.
