Letting Christ Reshape Your Reactions

1 John 3:7–10

Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.

The deepest truth about your spiritual condition is often revealed not in what you carefully plan, but in how you react without thinking. Split-second reactions expose the unvarnished reality of your inner world—your hidden fears, pride, impatience, and self-protection.

Jesus demonstrated a completely reordered instinctual world. When insulted, He stayed steady; when interrupted, He stayed present; when betrayed, He remained loving. His responses were not staged performance, but the natural overflow of an inner life aligned with the Father.

Christ does not condemn you for your unrefined reactions; He offers to reshape them. He trains you to pause instead of snap, listen instead of defend, soften instead of harden, and respond from love rather than fear.

Pay attention to your automatic responses. Invite Christ into those split-second spaces where your old nature still tries to speak.

What recent instinctive reaction exposed an area where Christ’s love has not yet taken deep root?
