1 John 2:1–2
My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world.

An Advocate is not a soothing sentiment; it is a legal and spiritual reality. An advocate steps into the space where you cannot defend yourself, speaking on your behalf when you are entirely out of words and standing beside you when you deserve to be left alone.
Jesus does not abandon you in your moments of deepest shame. He steps toward you. Yet many eagerly welcome Jesus as a comforter while resisting Him as an Advocate. An Advocate implies something broken that requires defending, cleansing, and restoring—something you cannot fix or excuse on your own.
Pretending to be fine blocks transformation. It keeps your faith shallow, your posture defensive, and your love fragile. You cannot receive the full depth of Christ’s mercy while insisting on managing your own guilt.
Stop carrying burdens offered to be lifted. Transformation takes root the moment you allow Jesus to stand where you cannot stand on your own.

What failure or fear have you been trying to manage in your own strength—and what changes when you let Jesus step in as your Advocate?
