This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us.

The foundational truth of the gospel is simple: We love because He first loved us. You do not love to earn acceptance, maintain standing, prove spiritual discipline, or secure identity. You love because you are already lavishly loved.

Many believers spend their entire lives striving toward God’s love—trying to deserve it, maintain it, or secure it through performance. But Christian formation demands living from God’s love—rooted, secure, confident, and held.

When you live toward love, fear flourishes, self-protection dominates, and your posture becomes anxious and reactive. When you live from love, fear dissolves, generosity expands, and your spirit grows steady.

Stop striving for what has already been freely given. Allow His unearned love to settle deep into your bones.
