Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.

Spiritual language often serves as a convenient hiding place. It is astonishingly easy to convince yourself that your relationship with God is thriving while your human relationships are fractured, cold, or bitter.
The text refuses to tolerate this self-deception. Your love for God is proven exclusively in your love for people—not in spiritual knowledge, expressive worship, religious busyness, or emotional feelings.
The individuals you find most difficult to love reveal the exact boundaries of your spiritual maturity. Withholding compassion, nursing bitterness, or maintaining cold distance while claiming intimacy with God is exposed as a profound contradiction.
Integrate your spirituality into your actual relationships. Allow divine love to thaw the places where your heart has grown cold or selective.
