hymnaphobia

I can feel a new song rising up,
simmering under the surface
I sit and wait
On your word I meditate
lifting my eyes to You

in a moment
yet undefined
it will spring forth
and fill the void
as I lift my eyes to You

cares I abandon
on you alone I trust
there's a new song coming
Heaven and earth shall meet
in a thin place
in the present

There’s an old hymn book with the following headings:
rejoicing;
fighting;
praying;
watching;
working;
suffering;
groaning for full redemption;
brought to the birth;
saved;
interceding for the world.

We sanitise our worship and praise, we use ineffectual words & language that couldn’t offend a flea. We change transport to rapture and back again. We get caught up in gender and take out sharp words lest the children be frightened.

BUT

“Love is not consolation. It is light.”

Simone Weil

Love is not second best. Love is light. And light is Christ.

Love is the very best, and the light which is Jesus Christ is the very best of light. It warms us, it illuminates us, it is in very essence, in its very core LIFE

and life in abundance.

All we gotta do is turn our face to the glory of the Lord and allow his light shine in and through our lives.

There is a song coming…

and there will be no air brushing over the cracks, there will be no ‘Milton’ or ‘Domestos’ used. Life is painful, it does hurt. But life with Jesus is joy and love and peace in the pain and hurt of ordinary.
