1 John 2:15–17
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives for ever.

Desire is never neutral. The loves that quietly take root in your heart eventually steer the trajectory of your entire life. Few people reject Christ outright; far more drift because their inner lives become crowded with lesser loves.
When your heart is filled with misdirected loves, there is no room left for kingdom love. You cannot cling to self-importance and become gentle; you cannot cling to comfort and become compassionate; you cannot cling to control and become kind.
Examine what you actually love—not what you claim to love, but what your habits reveal. What do you reflexively protect, chase, fear losing, or daydream about?
When desires are disordered, compassion becomes thin and faith becomes shallow. Allow Christ to reorder your heart by truth—loosening your grip on what drains you, exposing the small loves that keep you diminished, and awakening desires that lead to real life.
