“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” — Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
Every now and then, life gives us a moment that feels almost perfect — a sunset that stops us in our tracks, a night sky full of stars, a quiet moment with someone we love. For a heartbeat, everything feels right, and we think, I wish it could always be like this. But those moments pass quickly, and something inside us aches for more.
We often chase that “more” in milestones. We tell ourselves, When I reach this goal, then I’ll feel fulfilled. When I’m in a relationship. When I’m married. When I have children. When I get the job. When I retire. And while each season can bring joy, none of them fully satisfies the deeper longing inside us.
Why? Because we were created with a built‑in awareness that life is meant to be more than survival or success. We were made for meaning. We were made for purpose. We were made for connection with God.
Paul puts it beautifully: “We are God’s masterpiece.” Not an accident. Not an afterthought. A masterpiece — something crafted with intention, care, and vision. And God’s purpose for us isn’t vague or distant. It’s woven into who we are. When we open our lives to Christ, something awakens in us. We begin to see possibilities we couldn’t see before. We begin to sense that our lives can make a difference.
But purpose doesn’t come from trying to earn God’s approval. Paul reminds us that salvation is a gift, not a reward. We don’t work for God’s love — we work from it. And that changes everything. When we stop striving to prove ourselves, we become free to live out the good things God has already prepared for us.
The Holy Spirit becomes our guide — nudging us toward opportunities to love, serve, encourage, and bring hope. Purpose isn’t always dramatic. Sometimes it looks like kindness. Sometimes it looks like faithfulness. Sometimes it looks like showing up for someone who needs you. Sometimes it looks like choosing compassion when frustration would be easier.
The more we align our daily lives with who God created us to be, the more we discover that sense of “something more” we’ve been longing for. Not in fleeting moments, but in a steady, growing awareness that our lives matter — to God, to others, and to the world.
You are God’s masterpiece. And God is not finished with you yet.
And what will you do now?
What small, meaningful action could help you step more fully into the purpose God has placed within you?
