breathe away

Every breath we take brings life into our bodies. It is a true miracle that we don’t have to think about each breath. It is an automatic response, and something that even if we tried we cannot stop.

Breathing helps us in many situations. A stressful time – deep breathing can relax us. In a difficult place, breathing through it can bring calm where there was chaos. A burden, an annoyance, or a distraction all can be lessened in the moment by breathing evenly and deeply.

Breathing allows us to focus on what needs to take our full concentration. This is an amazing feat that we can lean into just to breathe calm, and bring us energy to complete tasks.

Today I was in my place of putting things off, when I chose to breathe deeply. As I breathed in the lovely clean air I began to feel less chaotic and more calm. I opened my Bible at Psalm 147 and read:

Praise the Lord.
How good it is to sing praises to our God,
    how pleasant and fitting to praise him!
He heals the brokenhearted
    and binds up their wounds.
He determines the number of the stars
    and calls them each by name.
Great is our Lord and mighty in power;
    his understanding has no limit.
The Lord sustains the humble
    but casts the wicked to the ground.
Sing to the Lord with grateful praise;
    make music to our God on the harp.
