“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us.”
1 John 1:9
We get things wrong.
Sometimes they are little things.
A sharp word.
An impatient response.
Something we should have done and didn’t.
And sometimes they are bigger things.
Things we wish we could undo.
Choices we would make differently now.
Moments that still make us wince when we remember them.
Our instinct can be to hide them.
From other people.
From God.
Sometimes even from ourselves.
But grace doesn’t ask us to pretend.
Grace lets us tell the truth.
We can come to God and say, I got that wrong.
No excuses.
No carefully constructed defence.
No pretending it didn’t matter.
Just honesty.
And there, in that honest place, we discover something wonderful.
God already knew.
And God did not walk away.
Grace does not say that what happened didn’t matter. Grace says that our mistakes do not have to have the final word.
There is forgiveness.
There is another beginning.
There is a way forward.
Perhaps there is something you have been carrying that you need to put down today.
Bring it honestly to God.
And leave it there.
Carry this today
My mistakes are part of my story. They do not get to write the ending.
Prayer
God of grace,
you know the things I get right
and the things I get wrong.
Give me courage to be honest with you,
to receive your forgiveness
and to begin again.
Amen.
