“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realise what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” 2 Timothy 3:16
The Bible is unlike any other book in human history. It doesn’t simply contain God’s words — it is God’s Word, breathed out through ordinary people in extraordinary ways. And before we look at the places where Jesus appears in the Old Testament, it helps to remember what kind of book we’re dealing with.
One Story Told Through Many Voices
The Bible is not a single book written by a single author. It’s a library of sixty‑six books, written by more than forty people across roughly 1,500 years. Kings and shepherds, prophets and poets, fishermen and physicians — each with their own personality, vocabulary, and life experience — all contributed to this remarkable collection.
And yet, despite the diversity of voices, backgrounds, and centuries, the Bible speaks with one unified message. That unity is not accidental. It’s miraculous.
God didn’t dictate Scripture word‑for‑word like a boss giving instructions. He inspired each writer to use their own style, their own stories, their own way of seeing the world — and still ensured that what they wrote revealed His truth. Human hands held the pen, but a divine Author guided the story.
The Golden Thread
When you step back and look at the Bible as a whole, a single thread runs through every page: Jesus.
- In Eden, He is the promised One who will crush the serpent.
- In Noah’s ark, He is the rescue that carries humanity through judgment.
- In Abraham, Jacob, and David, He is the descendant who will bless the nations.
- In the prophets, He is the long‑awaited Messiah.
- In the Gospels, He is the fulfilment of every promise.
Sixty‑six books. One story. One Saviour.
A Perfect Plan in a Perfect Book
The Bible reveals God’s love for a world that turned away from Him — and His plan to bring us home again. Every chapter, every genealogy, every prophecy, every Gospel account points to the same truth: God has been preparing the way for Jesus from the very beginning.
When we understand the Bible’s unity, its depth, and its divine origin, we begin to see why the Old Testament is full of Jesus long before Bethlehem.
Reflection
How do you know God’s Word can be trusted? What experiences, moments, or Scriptures have convinced you that this Book is more than human words?
