Luke 2:16–18 “So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.”
The shepherds didn’t hesitate. They saw, they believed, and they proclaimed. Their joy overflowed into bold witness, and everyone who heard was amazed.
- Go tell it on the mountain,
- The Saviour’s love has come.
- Light has pierced the darkness,
- God’s gift to everyone.
Yet for us, there often exists a gulf between hearing the Christmas story and sharing it. On one hand, our reluctance makes no sense. What news could be more joyous than this? God Himself has come to earth—not only to reveal His glory but to rescue us from our sins. Joy to the world!
On the other hand, hesitation feels understandable. Jesus Himself warned that proclaiming His name would bring resistance, rejection, even hatred (Matthew 10:22). The same Lord who declared, “God so loved the world” (John 3:16) also prepared us for the cost of discipleship.
The gospel is both good news and hard news. It tells us we are more sinful than we ever dared believe, yet more loved than we ever dared hope. It promises forgiveness, grace, and eternal life, but it also calls us to repentance, humility, and dying to self.
So yes—go tell it on the mountain, over the hills, and everywhere. Not everyone will rejoice, but some will. And for those who do, their testimony will echo the shepherds: “I was lost, but the Lord showed me the way.”

Prayer
Lord Jesus, open doors for me to share the good news of Your coming. Lead me to those whose hearts are ready to repent, receive, and rejoice. And when I face opposition, let the joy of Your love outweigh every rejection. Amen.
