Colossians 1:19–20 NLT For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.”
As Christmas approaches, it’s easy to think only about gifts, lights, and fun traditions. But the Bible reminds us that this season is also about something much deeper. The apostle Peter wrote,
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour
1 Peter 5:8 NLT
That may sound intense, but it’s a reminder that even during joyful times, we need to stay close to Jesus.
Christmas is full of hope, joy, and giving—but it’s also about why Jesus came in the first place. The world was broken, and we needed a Saviour. The cradle in Bethlehem was always pointing to the cross at Calvary. That’s why red is such a powerful color at Christmas. It’s not just about wrapping paper or Santa’s suit—it’s about the blood of Jesus, shed so that we could have eternal life.
The good news is that the battle has already been won. Jesus defeated sin and death once and for all. But the enemy still tries to distract us, tempt us, and pull us away from God. You can see this in the world around you—when people mock faith, when culture pushes us toward selfishness, or when it feels easier to hide in the dark than to live in the light. This struggle goes all the way back to Genesis 3:15, when God promised that one day the serpent’s head would be crushed.
The birth of Jesus wasn’t just a sweet story—it was God’s plan to bring peace through sacrifice. The Incarnation was necessary for atonement. His birth carried the purpose of His death, and His death carried the promise of resurrection. That’s what Christianity is all about: light versus darkness, good versus evil, truth versus lies.
Here’s something to think about: peace often comes through conflict. When you choose to live in the light, some people may not understand. They may even push back, because the light exposes what they’d rather keep hidden. But don’t be discouraged. God is working even in those moments. Our job is to stand firm, to pray, and to keep pointing others toward Jesus.
Imagine what it would mean if someone you know—maybe a friend at school, a teammate, or even someone in your family—came to know Christ this Christmas. That would be the greatest gift of all.
