There are certain expectations when you travel and stay in a hotel. If the hotel is in the Middle Eat/ Turkey those expectations are muted, for me, because I expect as a woman travelling alone to be treated differently.
My sons made me ditch my usual Jesus t-shirts for “lady abroad” tops. Bless them! I understood the implicit argument- I was in a country with a deity that I did not follow. Where there were rules around dress and sharing Jesus. I stopped them when they wanted me to cover up my Jesus tattoo with a bandage and I refused to take off the Jesus bracelet that has started so many conversations.
And thus I arrived.
The bus to the resort had one of my old Bible college tutors on it. The one whose class I aced, instead of the usual 50% slide through by the skin of my teeth. He got off too early for his hotel. I am trying to do less over-helping – you know when you know the solution before anyone else but is it helpful to overshare that. So I am working my way through that as a change from default neurodiversity to a more nuanced stance. At the next stop, his hotel, the Latvian lady behind me said people need to be responsible for their own information.
People were shunted off the bus at their various locales, with the Latvian commenting on their luggage, and much more. When it was my turn I gave the driver my tip and, bless him, he carried my luggage over 200 metres to the hotel reception.
Day 1: exceeds expectations
So thankful for My Saviour
I have peace in my heart that all will be well.
