The Christmas Bauble

 Bauble shards glowered
in silver light
tinsel strewn in ancient ruin

Mary sat amongst the broken glass
her arm skewed  ragdoll style
rainbows of colour danced
in a cruel waltz

Jamie stood in the doorway
smirking at the mess
At the dregs of his wife

Later a tidy, clean house
Mary’s arm strapped up
Even the gravy did not belie
The undertones of the house that unauspicious day
The chat, the goss -  about sundry and all
Jamie was mine host extraw    din      aire
Mary humbly reposed
The tree naked but for tinsel
